Territoriality and Tribalism

Territoriality-was most associated with animal biology and ecology but also finds its use in human behavior and psychology. It is relatively self-explanatory and is an evolutionary response usually associated with mating and resources. Todays modern society with quickly approaching nine billion people on the planet those resources are quickly disappearing, leading to a significant increase in aggression among the general population which is also, seen in examples throughout the animal kingdom such as competing ant and bee colonies.

Tribalism-Is more of a human condition but, also can be found in many of our primate ancestors. In humanities ancient times it was more about the territoriality mentioned above, but as humans progressed and formed early tribes, outsiders were considered invaders potentially trying to steal mates or food. Tribes that were close in proximally sometimes formed alliances and benefits in security and bartering formed. This was likely the first traits of tribalism. As humans evolved and anatomical differences developed a new branch of behavior formed and it was prejudice. We most commonly associate this with racism against the black cultures, however it was very wide spread but almost always associated with primary anatomical features. In America’s history Prior to Trump, the normal “white” American could generally live along side one another despite backgrounds and beliefs. When Obama won a resounding victory in 2009 on the political scene the southern and country Americana went out of their minds, a black man could be president in America and serve eight years on top of it. The stage was set and those white people (democrats) who voted for him was now the enemy, and generally out of the “tribe.”
