Double Standards of Americas Justice System, aside from the Scottie Scheffler incident mentioned above, there are hundreds of thousands to possibly millions of occurrences where businesses or wealthy affluent individuals escaped justice. If you do a google search it literally retrieves and uses this quote:
“The criminal justice system often operates with double standards, effectively creating two distinct tiers of justice: one for the wealthy and privileged, and another for the poor and minorities. Systemic disparities, such as harsher sentencing for street crime versus corporate crime, along with bail inequities, contribute to disproportionate incarceration rates.” source The sentencing project.
Many times these individuals should be serving real time such as the Sackler Family (the manufacturer and pusher of their drug oxycodone) which caused hundreds of deaths of addicted patients. This family and their escape of justice was highlighted on John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight show. This not only highlights how the wealthy escapes justice but corporate entities. Corporate entities are nearly 100% likely to escape criminal justice even if what they do is serious. Most often they get a slap on the wrist as far as financial penalties. Again, the world really needs to be un an outrage and on the streets about this. Most corporate allegations involve environmental disasters, tax evasion, fraud to lesser and more common things like price gouging, illegal fees. But nearly everyone is harmed by them and at the same time we bare the cost of their actions. Every time a company goes to court it will cost the taxpayer, very little is retrieved by the ones making millions in profits.
Seriously this is such a major issue, above is just a start to a much larger blog.
