Many of you remember the events of 9/11, at least I do and it was a tragic day in history. One of the things that came out of that event was the Patriot act and at the time necessary and was adopted with bi-partisan support.

Moving on its use yielded very little circumstances where it averted another attack. We have had more avoidable student deaths due to school shooting than anything else. The fact is outside terrorists threats on American soil was very low. For a long time there was a legitimate concern the government would use it for illegal domestic surveillance. This turned out to be true and was revealed through Edward Snowden whistle-blowing. Sadly, with no American support he was hailed a traitor and forced to flee to Russia. Several times the patriot act lost support and was withdrawn only to be reinstated under a different name-USA Freedom Act. Under it Americans continued to be surveilled despite having no connections to terrorist or criminal activities. Today, another older surveillance law the FISA, frequently used in parallel with these newer surveillance acts is up for review. Under Americas fascist administration they want to reinstate it as is. Can anyone seriously think this goon squad is going to use it other than attack people who oppose his regime! He has already targeted multiple democratic leaders and people who investigated him for the many various crimes he has committed. Fun fact, In April 2024 Trump himself wanted congress to kill this very act for fear the FBI was investigating him during his 2016 presidential campaign connection with Putin and Russia. I want to make damn clear how close we are to the George Orwell “1984” scenario, we are in the age of AI and facial recognition. The Trump administration has already chastised Anthropic for refusing the administration unrestricted access to its service for spying on its civilians. Question, are you an out spoken opponent of this administration? Do you think our government will stop using these surveillance technologies even if Trump is ousted from the White House. Once this government has access to these technologies everyone will be spied on and potentially targeted, even for free speech, which is quickly being eroded.
